The concept designs presented at the competition stage of the project catered not only to the design brief spelt out by the MMRDA, but also extended to design possibilities surrounding Marine drive.
This occurred because we acknowledged and integrated various other proposed developments (like the Worli Nariman Point Freeway, proposed Water Terminal at NCPA end etc.) into our design process. Looking at this entire area in its totality will be of great benefit to the city of Mumbai.
Basically the design solutions by ARC-CGL were categorized as three distinct layers.
Local problems: Local solutions These would be the smaller local problems which are immediately addressed within the overall design Scheme.
Experience zones: These are slightly larger areas which give us a purpose and a sense of experience within them.
Neighborhood impact: These are much larger areas or zones which are impacted by the developments at Marine Drive or are in continuation with it.
